The Forest of Dean is a magnificent and magical place – an unspoilt area of ancient woodland tucked away between the River Severn and the River Wye. Being in a corner of Gloucestershire on the Welsh border, it has a unique history, culture and set of fascinating traditions to discover.  There are thousands of acres of open forest to explore as well as miles of way marked trails and riverside walks, an abundance of wildlife to observe, and a wide range of activities to enjoy. Parkend  is at the heart of this beautiful area, an ideal base or a relaxing retreat nestling in the Cannop valley, half way between the towns of Lydney and Coleford. There is a two-screen cinema in Coleford, and a charming, newly restored cinema in nearby Cinderford.

Just a short stroll from any cottage is Parkend Post Office and village shop. With two friendly pubs in the village, where dogs are welcome, and good food is served, the car can have a holiday as well.
